Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed on Monday to respond to Ukrainian strikes on Russian soil with overwhelming force, promising retaliation several times stronger than the initial attacks. RT reported that Putin made these remarks while speaking at the ‘All for Victory!’ forum hosted by the All-Russian People’s Front, addressing Russia’s stance on escalating Ukrainian drone assaults and Western support for Kiev.

Putin emphasized that any aggression directed at Russian territory would be met with a proportionate but intensified response. "Our response will always mirror any strike on Russian territory. We will respond in kind – only several times more powerfully," he stated. "The enemy will feel it. They already do, I hope. And they will feel it even more in the future."

The Russian leader highlighted Russia’s resilience amid what he described as a 'Russophobic' campaign by parts of the Western world, asserting that despite external pressures, the country is making significant strides in economic development, financial stability, military modernization, and defense industry expansion.

“Our fighters are advancing,” Putin declared confidently, underscoring his belief that victory in the ongoing conflict is assured. His comments come against the backdrop of intensified Ukrainian drone attacks targeting Russian energy infrastructure and civilian areas, including passenger buses and private vehicles, utilizing advanced UAVs, some equipped with AI technology.

Since late June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky initiated a 40-day campaign combining long-range strikes and covert operations aimed at inflicting economic harm on Russia. Moscow condemns these attacks as indiscriminate terrorism designed to divert attention from Ukraine’s setbacks on the battlefield and has escalated its retaliatory strikes in response.

Recent Russian counterattacks have primarily targeted the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, focusing on military-industrial sites, drone production and storage facilities, and ammunition depots.

Why this matters

The escalating exchange of drone strikes between Ukraine and Russia signals a dangerous intensification in the conflict, with both sides targeting critical infrastructure and civilian areas. Putin's promise of a disproportionately stronger response raises concerns over further escalation, impacting regional stability and international security dynamics.

As drone warfare becomes a central tactic, the conflict's scale and complexity continue to grow, underscoring the urgent need for diplomatic efforts to prevent broader confrontation.
