A devastating fire broke out at a Bangkok bar late Sunday, killing at least 28 people and injuring more than 70, with many critically wounded, RT reported. The blaze started near the venue's music stage and rapidly engulfed the building, trapping patrons in smoke-filled restrooms.

According to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, 71 individuals were hurt in the incident, with 25 in critical condition as of Monday. The dense smoke and sudden power outage plunged visibility to zero, particularly blocking escape routes inside the restroom, which lacked windows and was effectively a dead-end.

Thai national police chief Kittharath Punpetch explained in a press conference that those caught inside the restrooms were unable to find an exit and succumbed to the thick smoke. "Once inside, escape was impossible because smoke had already filled the area," he said.

Authorities are concentrating their forensic investigation on the area above the music stage to determine the fire's origin. Police have also started probing the bar owners for possible negligence, following reports that emergency exits may have been obstructed.

The Chatuchak District Office has ordered the bar's closure for 30 days pending the investigation.
